About Rhapsody
Napster (formally known as Rhapsody) is a music streaming subscription service. Rhapsody launched in December 2001. The founders were Tim Bratton, J.P. Lester, Sylvain Rebaud, Alexandre Brouax, Nick Sincaglia, and Dave Lampton. They first produced Aladdin, which was an audio streaming engine. Rhapsody was the first on-demand music streaming service that offered unlimited access for a flat monthly fee. During their launch, they secured licensing from EMI, BMG, Warner Bro. Records, Sony, and Universal Records so that they could include artists’ music on the platform. Rhapsody is owned by the parent company, Rhapsody International Inc. The Chief Executive Officer is Bill Patrizio. In 2011, Rhapsody acquired Napster. In July 2016, Rhapsody merged and rebranded to Napster. Rhapsody (Napster) is available in over 33 countries. Though the headquarters are based in Seattle, WA; there are office locations throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Napster has various music categories and themes. These include rap/hip-hop, soul/r&b, country, jazz, electronic, Latin, world, reggae, classical, oldies, new age, Christian/gospel, blues, metal, folk, vocal/easy listening, soundtracks/musicals, children, and comedy/spoken word. Napster can be downloaded on Android, iOS, and Windows cellular devices, as well as on your computer. It is also available on Wii, Denon, Sono, and Chromecast.
